🌊🥾 Fishermen’s Trail Adventure
Portugal · May 18–25
6 days hiking + 1 surf day
A week-long coastal walking adventure along one of Europe’s most spectacular long-distance trails, followed by a surf & recovery day on the Algarve coast.
This is a self-organised group adventure: we walk together, share the experience, but everyone books and manages their own accommodation, transport, food, and gear.
🌍 The Route
We’ll hike the Fishermen’s Trail (Rota Vicentina), following ancient fishermen’s paths along wild Atlantic cliffs, empty beaches, dunes, and small coastal villages.
Start: Porto Covo
Finish: Arrifana
Total distance: ~120 km
Average per day: ~20 km (some days up to ~22 km)
Terrain: coastal paths, sand, cliffs (no technical climbing)
🗓️ Day-by-Day Stages
Day 1 – May 19
Porto Covo → Vila Nova de Milfontes (~20 km)
Dunes, cliffs, wild beaches. Classic opening stage of the trail.
Day 2 – May 20
Milfontes → Almograve (~18 km)
River crossing + long sandy stretches along the coast.
Day 3 – May 21
Almograve → Zambujeira do Mar (~22 km)
One of the most beautiful and remote days: cliffs, sea stacks, empty beaches.
Day 4 – May 22
Zambujeira do Mar → Odeceixe (~18 km)
Cliff-top walking ending at a dramatic river mouth.
Day 5 – May 23
Odeceixe → Aljezur (~22 km)
Transition into the Algarve: mix of coastal and inland paths.
Day 6 – May 24
Aljezur → Arrifana (~18 km)
Big Atlantic views and a strong finish above Arrifana’s famous surf beach.
Day 7 – May 25
Surf & Recovery Day – Arrifana 🏄
Optional surf day (rent boards locally), swimming, resting, or cliff walks.
Perfect decompression after a full hiking week.
🏨 Accommodation
Everyone books their own stay
Hostels and guesthouses available in every stop
Typical cost: ~€20–45 per night
Options range from social hostels to quiet guesthouses
I’ll share suggested towns and typical hostel names, but no group bookings or coordination required.
🧭 What this adventure is (and isn’t)
✅ This is:
A shared walking journey
Social but low-pressure
Nature, movement, simplicity
Ideal if you enjoy long days outdoors and simple logistics
❌ This is not:
A guided tour
A retreat
A managed trip
An organised accommodation or transport package
Everyone is responsible for:
Their own bookings
Their own pace
Their own safety and decisions
